Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Eyelid Surgery is a procedure to remove excess skin and muscle from the upper and lower Eyelids. Sometimes excess fat is also removed, or it may only be redistributed in order to correct its bulge. Eyelid Surgery can correct skin laxity that tends to sag in upper and lower lids and result in bags below your Eyes.

These changes in appearance give you a tired and older look, and if severe enough, may even obstruct your vision. This surgery does not correct crow's feet or other wrinkles, or eliminates dark circles under your Eyes. Also, it is not a procedure that lifts sagging Eye Brows. While it can add an upper Eyelid crease to Asian Eyes, it will not erase evidence of your ethnic or racial heritage. This surgery can be combined with other procedures such as Face Lift or Brow Lift.

Who is best for Eyelid Surgery?

The best candidates for Eyelid Surgery are men and women who are physically healthy, with expectations that can be met by the results. Most are 35 years or older, but it is not uncommon for younger patients with baggy or saggy Eyelids to have surgery on their Eyelids.

Anesthesia

Eyelid Surgery may be performed under local Anesthesia which numbs the area around your Eyes. An oral or intravenous sedative may be added. Sometimes, general Anesthesia is indicated; in this case you will sleep through the operation.

Surgery

Blepharoplasty usually takes one or two hours, depending on the extent of the surgery. In a typical procedure, incisions are made following the natural lines of your Eyelids; in the creases of your upper lids, and just below the lashes in the lower lids. Working through these incisions, the skin is separated from underlying fatty tissue and muscle. Excess skin and fat may be removed. The incisions are then closed with very fine sutures, which are removed a few days later.

Your new Appearance

Healing is gradual and your scars will eventually fade from a red color to a thin, almost invisible white line. The positive result of your Eyelid Surgery is a more vital and youthful look.
